By
contributing a total of $12,400, representing a donation of $25 for
each of its 496 current members, the Building Industry Association of
Okaloosa and Walton Counties became the first homebuilders group in
the country to demonstrate 100% participation in a national effort to
raise funds to help the victims of the September 11th terrorist attack
on America.
The donation is being made, through the Florida Home Builders
Association (FHBA), to the "Homebuilders Care Victims Relief
Fund." The fund was established as part of the National Housing
Endowment, the philanthropic arm of the National Association of Home
Builders, insuring that all money collected goes to efforts which
provide assistance on behalf of firefighters, police officers and
other victims and their families.
All 205,000 members of NAHB are being encouraged to contribute at
least $25 each to reach a total contribution of $5 million to the
fund.
Ron Coppenbarger, President of the Florida Home Builders Association,
saluted the BIA of Okaloosa-Walton for being first in the nation to
meet the fundraising goal. "This is a great example of
leadership, compassion and patriotism," he said.
"The economy is causing a lot of uncertainty in the industry
right now," Malcolm Patterson, Executive Vice President of the
BIA, points out.
